Veterans Day 2017

Come celebrate our nation's veterans this weekend throughout the Tampa area. Veterans Day is this Saturday, November 11th. This national holiday recognizes and honors service members from all of the branches of the United States military. It recognizes their bravery and sacrifice in protecting our freedoms. Be sure to thank a veteran you know on this commemorative holiday and celebrate these honorable men and women at one of these great community events!


25th Annual Tampa Bay Veterans Parade

Date: Saturday, November 11th

Time: 10:00 am

53rd Annual Veterans Day Tribute

Date: Saturday, November 11th

Time: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Location: Veterans Memorial Park and Museum (3602 Highway 301 North, Tampa)

Cost: FREE!

Enjoy a patriotic tribute with the theme "Honoring America's Veterans". There will be patriotic music and refreshments. Hear great speakers and presentations by:

  • Col. S. Troy Pananon, Vice Commander, 6th Air Mobility Wing, MacDill Air Force Base

  • Col. Jim Waurishuk, USAF, Retired

  • JROTC color guard, drill performances, and patriotic recitations

  • POW/MIA Missing Man Ceremony with rifle salute and taps

  • Veterans Council Awards

This year's celebration is extra special as the Veterans Memorial Park & LeRoy Collins, Jr. Veterans Museum have been added to the offical list of Regional Veterans Day Sites by the Veterans Day National Committee of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.


Veterans Day Celebration

Location: Largo Central Park (101 Central Park Drive, Largo)

Celebrate all who have served in our Armed Forces in Largo. Be there for the ceremony starting at 11:11 am. The City of Largo will present their first ever Barbara Bush Citizen Patriot Award to Dava Guerin, author of Unbreakable Bonds: The Mighty Moms and Wounded Warriors of Walter Reed and Vets and Pets: Wounded Warriors and the Animals That Help Them Heal. After the ceremony enjoy military vehicle displays, free flight bird presentations, live bands, youth activities, and food trucks.


Red White & Bluegrass Festival

Date: Saturday, November 11th

Time: 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Location: Tampa Elks Lodge 708 (3616 West Gandy Boulevard, Tampa)

Cost: $20 per person

Come join others in your community for an afternoon of fun and celebration. Dine on delicious food, including ribs, mac & cheese, green bean casserole, baked beans, garlic bread, and ice cream sundaes. Listen to incredible live bluegrass music by Sandy Back Porch and Blackwater Creek. Enter for door prizes, the 50/50 raffle, and YeeHaw Auction. Proceeds from this event help veterans in need.

Trick or Treating Fun in Greater Tampa!

Halloween is finally here! The streets of the greater Tampa area will soon be filled with hundreds of witches, ghosts, superhereos, and princesses! Give your children a Halloween they will never forget by taking them some place new and unique to trick or treat! Here are our top picks for great trick or treating spots throughout the Tampa metropolitan area.

Riverwalk Trick or Treat

Collect goodies from 40 different locations along the Riverwalk. Afterwards, stick around for a free family Halloween movie screening in Water Works park.

Halloween Spree

Location: Glazer Children’s Museum

Labor Day Weekend Festivals in Greater Tampa!

Great New Restaurant Openings in Tampa Bay!

We're always looking for great new restaurants and venues to visit in Tampa Bay and this week we have 2 new restaurants announcing their new openings!

Noble Crust- The great seasonal Italian with Southern Soul will be opening their second location next week at Shops at Wiregrass Mall in Wesley Chapel. Featuring 166 indoor seating and 56 additional on the great outdoor patio.  The vibe here will be similar to their original location in St. Petersburg; well worn, comfortable with social tables, open kitchen and bar featuring custom crafted drinks and micro-brews and wine on tap. Chef Rob Reinsmith will be taking the helm at this location.  

The Heights Public Market to be located in the Armature Works space in Tampa.  This highly anticipated opening will include a 'rotating stall' or 'guest concept', with the first installment featuring local food trucks Surf and Turf and Empamamas! Surf and Turf menus will include the delectable Maine Lobster Rolls, BLT- Bacon, Lobster and Tomato sandwich and a selection of Surf and Turf's exemplary rolls. Empamamas, named for Tampa's Stephanie Swanz whom received the name of 'Empamama' after crafting homemade empanades for her Cuban relative. She will showcase her entire lineup of empanades during the opening of the Heights Public Market which include the infamous Tampa Girl made with roasted pork, honey ham, Genoa Salami, Swiss Cheese, pickles and special sauce as well as the Cheeseburger in Paradise (a nod to the great Jimmy Buffett) featuring seasoned ground beef, bacon, 3 cheeses, spinach, tomato, red onion and pickles.  You don't want to miss the new concept being displayed at The Heights Public market. Opening is set for a September debut.

School's Out For The Summer!

School is finally out for the summer! Kids are ready with energy to get outside and play and start their adventures. Parents, don't worry, we have just the thing for you! Tampa Bay Area offers a variety of summer camps to keep kids engaged. From arts and science to sports and day camps there's something for everyone!

The Lowry Park Zoo, Big Cat Rescue, Park Districts, and many other facilities throughout Tampa area come together to provide kids with education, fun, and entertainment to keep their minds growing and learning on their summer break. Many camps are a first-come, first-serve basis and space is limited, so don't hesitate to sign up now! This is the perfect opportunity for kids to get out, have some fun, and meet new friends.

Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember all those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we live everyday.  Tampa Bay has big plans for the Memorial Day weekend.  Check out which one is best for your family:

Let Freedom Ring- The Florida Orchestra celebrates Memorial Day with an 'American Salute' encompassing 3 concerts of Patriotic favorites.  The Performing Arts in Tampa, Friday night starting at 8:00 pm.

Oldsmar Freedom Fest- Live music from area bands, food, craft vendors, kids activities and a Memorial Day Ceremony.  Oldsmar State Street Festival Zone- State St E and Fairfield St. Friday-Sunday.

Celebrate Sacrifice- Dunedin- The Dunedin Concert Band performs a Memorial Day salute with a acknowledgement to the assassination of President Lincoln and it's close proximity to Memorial Day. Pioneer Park, 3 pm, Sunday.

Memorial Day Ceremony- Veterans Park- Tampa- patriotic songs, keynote speech, POW/MIA Missing Man Remembrance Celebration, Wreath Presentation, Rifle Salute and Taps.  

Memorial Day Sandbar Concert- You have to be on a boat to get to this concert in St. Petersburg featuring live music from a pontoon stage! Performances will include;Hal Hammer Jr, The Cross Creek Blues Band and Chris Hiatt with Cold Shot.
